The Shape of Desire?

The moment of grasping something dazzling in front of my eyes, a sense of solid abundance wraps around me, and a jolt of pleasure sparks like electricity. The sweetness of fulfillment feels as if it might last forever—yet soon, my eyes begin to chase the outline of new product larger, and shinier. The desire to possess more and wider wells up again. Even as my ownership accumulates, the warehouse within me echoes with emptiness. And so, unable to stop, I reach out once again.

As time passes, this desire grows explosively. The more I grasp, the more I want—and the moment something is in my hands, I begin searching for something even larger and more dazzling. Satisfaction is fleeting; possession itself becomes the spark for the next desire, multiplying endlessly. Capitalism feeds this fire with personalized recommendation algorithms and flashing ‘new arrival notice’ that function like viral hosts—replacing individual values with ‘ownership’ as life’s highest priority. In Korea and across the world, advertisements and shopping platforms stimulate this emotion around the clock, pulling the curve of desire upward like an exponential function. Trapped in this loop of endless amplification, we once again reach out—beyond the screen. This desire shares a similar nature with the element of ‘metal’, so the color of this element would be applied through a subjective lens.

눈앞의 빛나는 것을 손에 넣는 순간, 든든한 풍요가 온몸을 감싸고 전류 같은 쾌감이 번뜩인다. 달콤한 포만은 순간 영원할 듯하지만, 시선은 금세 더 크고 반짝이는 새 제품의 윤곽을 쫓는다. 더 넓게, 더 많이 내 것으로 만들고 싶은 갈망이 다시 차오르고, 소유가 차곡차곡 쌓여도 마음속 창고는 여전히 텅 빈 메아리만 남긴다. 그래서 멈추지 못한 채 또 다시 손을 뻗는다.

시간이 지날수록 이 욕망은 폭발적으로 커진다. 쥐면 쥘수록 더 갖고 싶고, 손에 넣자마자 그보다 더 크고 눈부신 것을 찾아 헤매게 된다. 만족은 찰나이고, 소유 그 자체가 다음 욕망의 불씨가 되어 무한히 증식한다. 여기에 자본주의가 주입한 맞춤형 추천 알고리즘과 번쩍이는 ‘신상 알림’이 바이러스의 숙주처럼 작동해, 개인마다 다른 가치보다 ‘소유’를 삶의 최우선으로 재배치한다. 한국과 세계 사회 곳곳의 광고와 쇼핑 플랫폼은 이 감정을 24시간 자극하며, 욕망의 곡선을 지수 함수처럼 가파르게 끌어올린다—무한 증폭의 고리에서 벗어나기 어려운 채, 우리는 또다시 화면 너머로 손을 뻗는다.
