In an environment where one is acknowledged and accepted just as they are, existence becomes ever more vivid. Yet the more I strive to be seen, the more I try to prove myself, the more my presence begins to blur – and I lose my breath. At the moment of recognition that finally comes, everyone’s eyes brighten simultaneously and a warm current permeates into my chest. A sincere gaze and kind words melt away the baggage, anchoring me with steady calm. In this quiet equilibrium, where no proof is needed, a single small nod ripples outward—engraving deep trust and a full of pride.

Small happiness blooms in moments of mutual respect. Yet in Korean society—where the gaze of neighbors, family, and friends can become the weight of life—such respect often turns into an ‘exam’, followed by the demand: “Prove yourself.” To shake off anxiety and helplessness, we yearn more intensely for recognition. When things go smoothly, this desire of recognition flares like fire, reaching a peak of overheating at point E(1). The heat gradually subsides when met with genuine acceptance, and the graph slowly converges toward a calm state of being as it is (B=1). 서로를 존중하는 데에서 작은 행복이 피어나기 마련이다. 그러나 이웃‧가족‧친구의 시선이 삶의 무게가 되는 한국 사회에서는 그 존중이 ‘시험장’으로 변해, “증명해 보라”는 요구가 뒤따른다. 우리는 불안과 무기력을 떨치려 더 간절히 인정받고자 하고, 일이 술술 풀릴 때 인정욕은 불꽃처럼 솟구쳐 E1에서 과열의 정점에 도달한다. 이어 진심 어린 수용이 깃들면 열기는 잦아들고, 그래프는 서서히 ‘있는 그대로의 평온한 상태 (B = 1)’에 수렴한다. 아이러니하게도, 모두에게 사랑과 인정을 나누는 것이 장점인 우리 문화가 때로는 과도한 비교와 증명의 무대로 돌변하기도 한다는 사실이다.
